Hello Everyone! July has been a busy month here at Evans. We started off with our Monday Bingo afternoons that many look forward to. The attendance has been growing and sometimes is at almost 40 participants! We are always looking for donations for Bingo prizes. They would be greatly appreciated!

We also enjoyed the presentation from Larry Reis and his Nature Talks. For July, he shared with us the pictures of his trip to the East Coast. He talked about the different birds, plants and animals there and we even saw a lighthouse or two. Thank you, Larry for the monthly visits and we look forward to many more to come.

Music is loved by many at Evans and during the month of July we had 7 different days of music entertainment. That was double our usual amount of monthly music! We enjoyed listening to the Lime Springs Mennonite Choir, Cello and singing from Jenny Matt and, Howard County Community Hospice Singing, Cathy Hoffert, 2 hours of Tim the Music Man at the Block Party and an hour later in the month, and music with Curt and Lind Gjere. We thank all these wonderfully talented musical acts that come to entertain us.

The Evans Annual Block Party had a great turn out this year. A special thank you goes out to all who came to join us that afternoon for good food, good fun and good music. Also, thank you to those that helped set up, cooked food, served food and cleaned up. Everyone’s participation contributed to The Block Party’s success!

The July theme was Creative Ice Cream. We had fun with this at our Friday Socials by enjoying Root Beer Floats, Banana Splits and cake with ice cream bars.  On one of the Fridays in July, we were entertained by a cooking demonstration from Chef Kevin. Since August is Watermelon Month, Chef showed us how to make Watermelon Salsa, Watermelon Goat Cheese Cups and Bacon wrapped Watermelon.  We had a great time taste testing all the food and can’t wait for next month’s demonstration! Thank you, Chef Kevin.

We played several fun games throughout July, explored our crafty side by making a 4th of July wreath and a stained glass jar, and even had a wine tasting with cheese and crackers.

August will now bring us the dog days of Summer. We look forward to many more fun adventures and challenges. Our new month brings us more music acts, fun games, Nature Talks, animal visits and great food.

I want to take the time to thank everyone that helps the Recreation Department. I would never be able  to make the activities possible without my volunteers and everyone who donates food or supplies to our department. We thank all of you! Evans is blessed to have you!

Thank You and Until Next Month,

Amy Norton, Recreation Program Director
