Hello again Everyone! We are now full on into the Fall season. It is bringing us the cooler temperatures and the beauty of changing leaves. We are looking ahead to many fun activities to come in October, but first, let me recap what we did in September.

The first week in September, we celebrated Labor Day, and, also enjoyed our monthly cooking demonstration from our very own, Chef Kevin. This month he made us Bacon Wrapped Pineapple Bites, Pepperoni Pizza Waffle Quesadillas, and Candied Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies. It was a wonderful treat and Chef Kevin is always a hit with our crowd!

We did a little of our own baking in September also. We made Mapledoodle cookies to serve during our Friday Social Hour and we also had Tresha Kuennen demonstrate the art of baking Apple Pies. Of course, the best part was getting to eat all the goodies we made.

In September, we enjoyed playing games such as our Monday afternoon Bingo, Leaf Bingo, Leaf Toss Bean Bag game, Yard Dice and Fall Bingo. We also enjoyed music from Cathy Hoffert, Curt and Linda Gjere and Tim The Music Man. Larry Reis came to speak to us about the Fall wildflowers in our area.

The last Friday in September  we had our monthly Birthday Bash. We celebrated Robert Bronner’s 100th birthday and served Cheesecake and Root Beer. Those were the requests of the Birthday Boy.

We ended the month with a Wine Social and snacks. We listened to the fine cello music of Jenny Matt during the social. It was quite a treat for all.

Our activities and entertainment in September were great, but we are very excited for October. There is a lineup of several music entertainers including Casey and the Good Timers, Tim The Music Man, Curt & Linda Gjere, The Lime Springs Children’s Mennonite Choir and performer, Darin Crow, singing songs from the old country. We have a Fall Hayride scheduled for October 20th.  We will tour the festive decorated Fall houses and beautiful colors of the leaves in Cresco. On Halloween, we look forward to the kids coming to Trick or Treat from 4-5:30pm. The next day, November 1st at 2pm, we will have our Halloween party. During the party, we will enjoy The Eric Michael’s Magic Show and we would like to invite the community to join us for this performance.

Happy Fall & Until Next Month,

Amy Norton, Recreation Director of Evans Memorial Home
