Hello again everyone! We will soon be welcoming Fall and the beautiful color changes on the trees. We have been so busy at Evans and it seems like Summer flew by us! The month of August was here and gone before we knew it. At least we enjoyed several wonderful memories along the way.

August started off with the residents enjoying teaching me a thing or two about the art of snapping green beans. Of coarse, along with the work of preparing the beans came many stories of gardening from years past.  I learned many tricks to being a great gardener and best of all, I enjoyed listening to the wonderful stories from the past. We want to thank the Kiwanis Group for providing the Evans residents with the green beans from their garden.

We had a special visit in August from a beautiful dog named Moo Cow. His owner, Cassandra Severson, came to tell us the story of how she wrote a book about him growing up and joining the other dogs on her sled team. Moo Cow was definitely a hit with everyone that day.

The month of August is Peach month. So, our very own Chef Kevin let us sample some peach dishes he demonstrated cooking for us. The first, was a barbeque chicken and peach Quesadilla. Next, was fresh Peach Fritters and Peach Foster with grilled pound cake and vanilla ice cream. The residents said they enjoyed all the dishes and can’t wait for Chef to return next time.

The residents look forward to our music acts that come in to see us monthly. We thank the Gjere’s, Tim the Music Man, the young Mennonite group and Bob Bovee for entertaining us with your talent during the month of August. The music is definitely a favorite here at Evans. We appreciate the smiles you bring to our resident’s faces.

Our calendar for September is full of many fun and exciting activities. We look forward to doing some Fall baking, special Bingo, Fall crafts and even a family campfire.

Please feel free to join us on September 14th at 7pm for a campfire and hot cider. Please bring along a chair, Also, don’t forget to stop in on September 8th for Grand Parents Day. The residents would love the company.

I want to say Thank You to the families and friends that have brought in donations for our Bingo prizes. The donations are always appreciated.

A huge THANKS goes out to all my volunteers! I could not do this without all your help. If there is anyone who is interested in volunteering with us, please give Evans a call. We would love to hear from you.

Thank you and Until Next Month,

Amy Norton, Recreation Director of Evans Memorial Home
