As we now head into summer and look forward to many great activities to come, I look back on the month of June and smile remembering all the fun moments we shared with the residents. The theme of the building for June was “The Great Outdoors”. I had a wonderful time decorating the building for this. Our fireplace room was converted to our very own campsite setting. Our walls were decorated with colorful animal pictures made by our own residents and the awesome 3 &4 year olds from Kessel who came to spend a morning with us.

On Monday afternoons, we enjoy the game of Bingo. It has always been a favorite of our residents, but lately, our participant numbers have been reaching almost 40 players. We have community visitors, Assisted Living residents and our own residents playing Bingo, having great conversation and most of all just enjoying this time together. This is a joyous sight for sure! Some of the other games the residents have enjoyed this month are Roll & Cover, Paddle Wheel, Oodles of Noodles and Bird Bingo.

Every month we are lucky enough to have our Cooperate Chef, Chef Kevin, come to our home and do an afternoon cooking demonstration for us. For the month of June, we watched Chef prepare Ham & Cheddar Dijon Pinwheels, Mac & Cheese Puff Pastry Cups, Fruit Tacos and Lemon Coconut Crepe Cup topped with fresh fruit. All the food was amazing and I think it’s safe to say we may have ruined the resident’s appetite for supper that night!

Another favorite of our residents is the music acts that come to play for us. We enjoyed an hour of Curt and Linda Gjere singing and playing piano during the morning, an afternoon of guitar, singing and harmonica with Bob Bovee and a wild evening of singing and dancing with Tim The Music Man.

On Friday, June 14th, we celebrated Flag Day and Father’s Day together. We used our afternoon social hour that day to invite families to have Donuts with Dad. We enjoyed a great afternoon of good treats and great conversation. A huge thank you goes out to all the families that came to celebrate with us.

Our residents even explored their crafty sides by making beautiful sun catchers for their windows and a red, white and blue clothes pin wreath for a July door decoration.

Sue Easler has been working hard with the Resident Bell Choir. They are planning on joining up with the Assisted Living to play a few songs for everyone during Evans Annual Block Party coming up on July 10th from 4-6pm.

We ended our busy month of June by taking a trip to The Mighty Howard County Fair. There, we toured the buildings and enjoyed a malt from the Moo Mobile.

The June Birthday Bash was celebrated with yummy cheese cake! This month we had a very special lady to celebrate. Ada W. turned 102 years young!!!! Happy, Happy Birthday Ada!! Her family had a wonderful banner made to hang up and brought many pictures in so I could make a wall display for everyone to see. Thank You, Walter family, for everything you do for your mom and for Evans!

In the month of July, we look forward to everyone joining us on the 10th from 4-6pm for our Annual Block Party.
