Fall arrived and seemed to leave us in a flash. We had an eventful and short lived Fall season.

During the month of October we did a little Fall baking for all the residents to enjoy. We made Pull Apart Carmel Coffee Cake and Peanut Butter Spider Cookies. These were both a hit with the residents to enjoy during their Friday Social Hours. Chef Kevin also came to demonstrate cooking us Butternut Squash Soup, Margarita Pizza and Apple Dumplings with Ice Cream. YUM!

By the request of our residents, I added more music acts during October. We thank Curt and Linda Gjere, Tim the Music Man, Casey and the Good Timers, Darrin Crow and The Lime Springs Mennonite Choir for entertaining us during this month.

Our residents learned a bit about the beautiful Fall colors we see on trees and plants this time of year from Larry Reis and his Nature Talks. We even enjoyed a wagon ride through Cresco one beautiful October day. The leaves on the trees were sporting beautiful colors and we even had a little hot cider on our ride.

We had a wonderful celebration for Halloween that lasted for two days. We started off on Halloween day having a costume contest for the residents and staff. After dinner, the residents left the dinning room and toured our spooky decorated hallway. Spiders and all!!Later that afternoon, the Trick or Treaters came calling and paraded their costumes around for us as they received their candy. I enjoyed seeing all the wonderful smiles on our resident’s faces! The next day, we celebrated Halloween at our Social. We invited Eric Michael’s Magic and Illusion Show to perform for us and we even had some Halloween goodies to snack on while watching the magic.

In November, we look forward to our music entertainers, many games, Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving Dinner.

I want to send out a special thank you to all my volunteers and helpers. I could not do it without you!

We wish all of our families and friends a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

Until Next Month,

Amy Norton– Evans Memorial Home Recreation Director
